Tennis Team Does Well at Districts

After two matches against their best competition last week, the girls finished their regular season undefeated, with a record of 11-0.  Leading the team was senior, Alex Lewis, who did not lose a singles or doubles match all season, finishing with a record of 22-0.

The team returned yesterday from Sarasota, where they met other 4A District 2 teams in the District Championship.  After winning all first round matches, the Lady Naughts progressed to the finals in #2, #3 and #4 singles, and in #2 doubles.  After rain delays and a lot of driving, the Naughts had a tough fight against the Sarasota Riverview, losing in the final rounds.  The team finished in 2nd place, and will continue on to the Regional Semi-Finals in Tampa next week, where they will play the 4A District 6 champs.

District Championship Runners-up:

#2 Singles:  Nicole Craven
#3 Singles:  Alex Lewis
#4 Singles:  Elizabeth Coleman

#2 Doubles:  Alex Lewis/Elizabeth Coleman

And don’t forget the Dreadnaught Boys’ Team!  Freshmen, Danny Mack, shocked the overly confident defending champs, Sarasota High School, when he stepped on to the court and proceeded to beat every #1 player to challenge him, and with little difficulty.  Danny won the #1 singles District Championship which qualifies him for State.  Partnering with Danny Mack, Peter Carrerou played some incredible doubles, winning in the semi-finals, only to lose a tough match in the finals.
